


While Aloy’s coming of age story and quest to save the biosphere forms the main narrative journey of Horizon Zero Dawn, several other side-stories unfold alongside it at the same time. With this in mind, it isn’t particularly shocking that Guerrilla Games has taken the opportunity to expand upon the concept of war in Horizon Forbidden West. All the various geopolitical conflicts and tribal wars that keep breaking out, which are easier to see up close, are far more pressing topics of discussion.

Peeking below the surface, though, reveals the amount of effort that Guerrilla Games has put into making the world of Horizon Forbidden West so much more than that on PS4 and PS5.įor most of the characters that Aloy interacts with, a lot of the world's catastrophes aren't central to their everyday lives. Everything from the circumstances of Aloy’s creation all the way to the threats that keep lining up to torment its characters point squarely toward the apocalypse. Thanks to the stakes involved, it’s sometimes easy to get swept up in the fact that the Horizon series’ universe is always on the brink of annihilation.
